Cork It!

Happy Tuesday!  Its been a while since my last post....I'm so sad to say I've been super busy this past month. So many life events keeping me on my toes and busy as a bee.

The past few weeks I worked on some projects that were 'cork' inspired. I was actually super excited to work with this theme because there are so many rustic, shabby-chic, ideas out right now. I wasn't sure which direction I should go with, so I hope you all like what I decided to do........

An easy and fun project I worked on was making wine stoppers. All you need is a cork and your favorite cabinet pull. For this particular project, clear blue knobs were chosen. You can choose any knobs you like, all you need to do is screw them (by hand) into the cork and wa-la! Do it yourself wine stopper. They can be as extravagant or plain as you would like them to be. Knobs can range anywhere from $.50 to $20.00 a piece. It all depends on your budget.
These corks were used as place card holders. For this particular project I wrapped black satin rimed ribbon around the cork and fastened it with a rhinestone pin. The real place cards used were made of sturdy stock paper that I was able to print on from my computer. The place card used here is just for demonstration purposes. I'm sad to say I forgot to get a picture of the final project. I told you I was super busy!!
T'his project I really enjoyed. Tis' the season of the Mason jar. These bad boys were filled with corks and then topped with a votive, wrapped in twine, with an old tattered skeleton key.
I actually fell in love with this project so much I made one for myself  and incorporated it into my bathroom decor! The twine I had stocked in my garage and the skeleton key was found at a craft store in the $1.00 bin!
These DIY candle holders will look great at any party. All that you need are some corks, basic dollar store candles and some old (or new) wine goblets.  They look really decorous bunched together in sets of 3 or 4 with goblets in various shapes and sizes.
This particular picture is also only for demonstration purposes only. As I was working on some of my projects I was trying to think of a way to incorporate the corks in a non-traditional manner for table numbers. I had this inspiration I wanted to share. Using BBQ skewers, I twisted the wine corks on the end and wrote the table number in permanent marker. In the future I would love to use these skewer table numbers in some old, spray painted wine bottles with some wild flower bouquets. These poor baby breathe were on their last leg, but I needed to make sure I gave my audience a mental picture to work with :-)

Last, but not least, are the candle scapes I made from my re-purposed Yankee Candle jars. I used the twine again to give them an unpolished and unrefined look.
